Petition message that will be sent to the University of Ferrara (Rector, general manager, and Scientific Committee of the Laboratory for the Technology of Advanced Therapies - LTTA Center) to ask them to rethink the project, and convert it from a new animal facility to a research center which would use real innovative technologies, not based on animals:

To the Rector Magnificus of the University of Ferrara

To the general manager of the University of Ferrara

To the Scientific Committee of the Laboratory for the Technology of Advanced Therapies

Dear professors,

I am writing to express my disappointment for the decision of the University of Ferrara to build a new animal facility.

This project, funded by the region Emilia Romagna through the European Regional Development Fund, represents a waste of resources which otherwise could be used in research projects that don’t include the use of animals.

More and more articles are published on scientific journals as British Medical Journal, JAMA, Nature, International Journal of Medical Sciences, Science, PNAS, which state the lack of predictive validity of animal models.

Considering the scientific criticism on the use of animals in biomedical research and the increasing opposition of Italian people to animal experimentation I ask the University of Ferrara to rethink the project and to use the funds destined to the realization of the animal facility to create a research center which would use innovative methods and advanced technologies not based on the use of animals.
